What’s hot this summer?

Each month I try to highlight what has gotten the most attention on the site. July has made one thing abundantly clear: The more controversial the topic, the more traffic I get. While recent pieces about the rise in pornographic reading and free speech definitely garner increased readership, some posts from the archives still hold their own.

Here are the Top 10 most read posts in July:

  1. 50 Shades of Grey, 1 Beautifully Distinct Purity
  2. For the love of homosexuals, chicken sandwiches and free speech
  3. Strawberry-Peach Oatmeal Crumble
  4. “50 Shades” Follow-up
  5. The Newest Dennis Adventure
  6. The Perfect Gift
  7. When a Boy Breaks His Leg
  8. About Me
  9. Big Word Bible Studies
  10. Jephthah’s Story (Judges 10–12)

Now, just because they’re read, doesn’t mean they’re fruitful or have any true impact. So, this month I also want to list which posts have been shared the most. It takes a little extra effort for someone to share a post, so these stats might be a bit more telling … even if they are a surprise to me. (I mean, really? People want to read about exploding diapers? And then tell their friends about it?!) Some of them don’t have a single “like” or comment, yet they make the Top 10 list of shares. “Sharing” includes links on facebook, twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon … you name it.

  1. 50 Shades of Grey, 1 Beautifully Distinct Purity
  2. Here I am, Lord.
  3. Lord, help me to pray.
  4. A New Day
  5. To Be Like a Fly
  6. Flat-footed Measles Patient
  7. What a great day!
  8. Even in the Little Laws
  9. Just a Worm and a Leaf
  10. I want to tell you the good news!
