God definitely has an agenda with me lately. He is always sovereign and He always pursues me for my good and His glory, but lately — over the past six months or so — He has wittingly tackled my issues of fear. I’ve never thought of myself as a fearful person. To the contrary, I’ve always perceived myself as courageous and even a touch reckless at times. But fear roots deep and those who know it well know well how to disguise it.
This book is the latest of His healing attacks. For it and its timing I am exceedingly grateful.
With her own brand of off-beat wit and wisdom, inspirational humorist Debora Coty addresses heart needs of women worn down by everyday fears – financial, health, relationships, loss, pain, the unknown, the what ifs …
Now, this book won’t appeal to everyone. The most conservative may find her humor a bit off-color or irreverent, but this girl is real. She’s real and she’s funny and she loves God completely. She seeks to know Him fully and the freedom He wants each of His children to enjoy, a freedom that comes only by standing up to our unhealthy fears and holding tightly to the healthy ones.
And, yes, there are healthy fears.
This book gained form after the author hosted a survey of hundreds of women about fear. She used her own experiences and an understanding of God’s Word to tackle the ten most common fears with Truth, sincerity and a touch of wacky perspective. Each chapter concludes with questions for reflection. These are perfect for personal devotion or group discussions.
Final Thoughts: This is great little book! It adeptly takes issue with heavy topics without feeling heavy itself. I found it filled with biblical principles, all presented in an approachable, entertaining, yet challenging way. If you want something meaty that reads light, I definitely recommend it.
About the Author: Debora Coty is an occupational therapist, a piano teacher, and a freelance writer. She’s also involved in the children’s ministry at her church and is an avid tennis player. Debora began writing to fill the void when her last child left for college, and it has since become a passion.
