This is just a little scheduling reminder …
Big Word does NOT meet this week. January gave us five Wednesdays so our schedule feels a little wonky. While I wish we didn’t have such a long time between gatherings, we’re sticking with a consistent schedule of the 2nd and 4th weeks of each month.
Our next in-home group will be on Wednesday, February 13th. We’ll start at 8 PM at my house, just like always. Online discussions (which now include video!) will go live Thursday, February 14th.
If you missed the beginning of the study, you can catch up quickly. Here are the important links:
The video includes a basic introduction to Big Word, to the books of Kings and then a quick re-cap of major themes presented in the first few chapters. I recommend just watching that first, then diving into our current study guide (1 Kings 5–8). If you have time, go back and investigate the questions from the first bundle (1 Kings 1–4). Our discussion next week will revolve around chapters 5–8, the building of Solomon’s Temple.
A number of people have shared that they just “don’t do homework” and that studies that require homework require too much of them. My response echoes this profound quote:
“I think the greatest weakness in the church today is that almost no one believes that God invests His power in the Bible. Everyone is looking for power in a program, in a methodology, in a technique, in anything and everything but that in which God has placed it—His Word. He alone has the power to change lives for eternity, and that power is focused on the Scriptures.”― R.C. Sproul, The Prayer of the Lord”
Each time we tap into God’s Word, we tap into Power. And if we are to thrive in this world, we need His Power.
So, thank you. Thank you for taking this journey with me.
