Being kidnapped by a great book {ipad mini giveaway!}

Last month I shared on facebook and twitter about my kidnapping. I typically read six or seven books at a time. On that particular weekend, however, one book captured me in such a way that dishes pile high, our kids were abandoned to way more screen time than is normally acceptable, and my husband was forced to handle all meals, lest we starve. I was gone for almost three days. I’ve been afraid to start another book by this author. I don’t want child protective services notified.

This book is that kidnapper. And the kidnapping author is offering a great prize to one lucky participant at her release party.

Below you’ll find snippets from the publisher about both the book and the author, Lisa Wingate. You’ll also get details about the ipad giveaway. My thoughts and comments are in the inset quote box. Note that I did receive a free copy of this book for review purposes, but am under no obligation to provide a positive review. See my FTC disclaimer in the footer at the bottom of the page.

About Firefly Island:
Sometimes love takes you on an adventure completely off the map.Mallory Hale’s life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas-with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow.

A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can’t shake is the unease she feels around her husband’s new boss, Jack West. Jack’s presence-and his mysterious past-set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn’t sure she wanted is the very place she’ll risk everything to save.

Link to buy the book:

Okay, that’s all true, but the publisher description makes it sound so sweet and typical. The story includes romance, but the real plot centers around culture clashes and the mysterious history of a town, its people and its future. On the surface, it’s a fish-out-of-water story, but Mallory must also face the challenges of a new marriage, an instant family and unmet expectations — all this leads to discovery and evolution of herself.

Lisa Wingate is a fabulous writer. Her characters were multifaceted and well-developed. Firefly Island is part of a series (the third book of “Shores of Moses Lake”), but it stands alone well. I actually didn’t realize it was part of a series until I finished it and started researching the author’s other works.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and this author!
