Happy Memorial Day!

This past week a relative of a relative was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. There are no words to adequately describe the tragedy. Neither are words sufficient to express the deep gratitude we feel for all who have served our country and those who currently do so. I feel thoroughly unworthy of the sacrifices they and their families make for me and mine.

Thank you.

Since words fail me, I’ll just share some pictures of how we celebrated this weekend. Read the rest of this entry

Disney World: Advice for First-Timers

After recounting all of our various Disney World experiences (here, here, and here), it seems appropriate that I share some tips for others seeking to visit the “greatest place on earth.” These are my top five rules for first-timers. Read the rest of this entry

The Birds, Proposals and Other Great Memories (Disney – Part 3)

This is the third part of a series of recapping our recent Disney vacation. Follow these links for Part 1 and Part 2.

Our week wasn’t all pixie dust and enchanted roses. Sure, it was quite amazing and without a doubt the best family vacation we’ve ever had. But there were a few less than stellar moments. Like the birds. Read the rest of this entry

A Disney Interview with Rick

More than a few of you have berated me for dropping the Disney report in the middle. Even Rick complained that if I didn’t write more soon, he’d have to do it for me. Oh, really? Really?? Fine, then. Today we’re interviewing my man on his perspectives of our latest and greatest family vacation. Read the rest of this entry

Deconstructed Scripture

A few years back the rage was all about deconstructed food. Over-priced restaurants would invite you to partake of their newest creations: a sandwich in parts. I fear we often deconstruct Scripture, more often forgetting to reassemble the pieces. Read the rest of this entry

Our trip to Disney – Part 1

This report is far overdue. We came back from Orlando more than a month two months ago, but the task of re-capping the essence of a trip that inspired more than 500 photos in less than a week and many, many happy dreams since … well, it’s a bit daunting. Subconsciously I fear that this post will actually bring closure, a depressing type of it’s-all-over, shut-the-book type of ending. And I don’t want that. We had such an AMAZING time!!! You can never re-do a “first”, so this trip was extra special for all of us. Maybe one day we’ll get back and that will be very, very cool, but it won’t be the same. I am slowly coming to grips with that.

I could probably ramble on about the trip forever, so a simple Q&A-type post might be best to start. Don’t worry — this is just Part 1. Read the rest of this entry

Reading without me.

Today is Friday (the 13th) which means it’s time for Read with Me.

If you’re new to my blog, Read with Me is an accountability challenge I started well over a year ago. The intent was for me and those who joined to encourage one another to read the entire Bible — all 66 books — in one year. When some of us completed the challenge and some of us didn’t, it turned into a two-year initiative. Read the rest of this entry
