Read with Me in 2011!
Last year we started the Read with Me Challenge with over thirty women and a handful of silent men committed to reading the entire Bible. Originally it was a one-year initiative, a goal begun and completed in less than 365 days.
Some of us finished on time — WOO-HOO!! I would love to get a head-count. How many of you read the entire Bible, all 66 books in 2010?
Some of us, however, didn’t quite make it — BUT WE CAN! We, myself included, are now on the two-year plan, which is why we need to continue our Friday check-ins for accountability. WE CAN DO IT, PEOPLE!!
Now, I don’t want to be exclusive here. Some of you may not have signed up last year, but want to take the challenge this year. That’s great! Many of you who DID finish on time were so fired up by the challenge that you’ve already started new Bible-reading schedules for the new year. I’m absolutely thrilled that God has started this raging fire for His Word. One of you, when nearing the end of the challenge, told me that you just wanted more. “It’s like getting to the end of a great novel and knowing there isn’t a sequel.”
Here’s how it works:
- If you’re still with us, whether pressing on to complete last year’s challenge or starting a new one for 2011, sign up in the comments section of this post.
- Let us know which plan you’re using. If you have a link to it, even better. (This is the plan most of us used last year.) This isn’t for accountability, but rather so those who don’t have plans can browse and choose one. It’s perfectly acceptable to change tracks throughout the year. Whatever it takes to keep reading and growing.
- Please stop by each week to check in. Just like last year, I’ll have regular posts (usually on Fridays) dedicated to this challenge. The purpose is to challenge, encourage, and spur one another on in our pursuit of God. Many of us desperately need that accountability. Besides I love hearing about what you glean from your reading!
If you still have questions, check out our “ground rules” and FAQs from last year.
So, who’s reading with me?

I meant to check in last week!
I would have been finished but our travel plans in December and a nasty stomach bug slowed me down!
I’m done with all the New Testament but am still plodding through the Old. I think I crossed November 24 off the list this morning…So I’m about a month behind! But reading the Bible in a year (and one month!) isn’t too bad!
I’m in! I’ve always wanted to do this, but never have. I’m starting fresh (and a week behind!!) this year to read all the books, but have no idea where to start. Suggestions?
Yay, Misty! WELCOME! Here is a link to the plan we used last year: http://www.navpress.com/uploadedFiles/15074%20BRP.dj.pdf
It’s a great plan because it takes from different parts of the Bible at the same time. This really helps get through the less exciting parts of Scripture.
ALSO – The plan incorporates an average of 5 days of “grace” in each month. That way if you get behind, you can use those extra days to catch up.
The less exciting parts? Hmm…I’m thinking of all those “begat” sections!
And with my extra grace days I’m only 2 days behind!
Yay! Year 2 of reading through the Bible in a year! I am REALLY hoping to finish it this year! I am reading through chronolgically…and am using YouVersion on my cell phone to keep track of where I am. They added this great application this year called “catch me up:, so if you are like me and had only read as far as say, March…but it was now December, it brings my reading up to December and says I should finish in September. I am so excited for this year and as of today, I am on track!
@Misty~if you check out youversion.com they have a bazillion different reading plans!
Thanks, Rach – I’ll check it out! Appreciate the tip!
I’m in. I’m reading one book at a time. I switched gears about midway through last year. This approach seems to work best for me. I’m glad you’re doing this again!
As I stated in my comment to last week’s post, I finished the 2010 reading plan on 1/1/11. This year I’m reading from the 1st 3 sections of the reading plan, then next year plan on reading the gospels and the Old Testament. I figure I can read selected books of the Old Testament during my extra days each month. I’m looking forward to starting Genesis on the 26th. Tanya, thanks for offering the check-in again this year. It’s a great encouragement!
I am in!
