Read with Me Check-In: The end of May!
Hey, ladies! Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. It’s been a really, really crazy week with house stuff and end-of-year school stuff and just other … stuff.
Our school doesn’t do a traditional kindergarten graduation. Instead, they do this fabulous presentation called “Salute to America.” It’s so cool! The students offer recitations of important pieces of American history from the Colonies through our presidents, the Civil War and more. Ellie played Betsy Ross. The program also included a huge reminder that while we are proud of our nation and support our troops, both past and present, our first allegiances are to God and His Word.
I struggled to keep my emotions in tact. Not just because of the enormity of the message provided by this group of five- and six-year-olds, but also because of this decision we have about schools. Do we keep them at this Christian school that we love? Or do we put them in public school after we move? I am so completely torn. There is no other way to describe it.
My co-class mom and I made a special something for the celebration:
ThisĀ is my first ever “cupcake cake.” (If you’re a fan of CakeWrecks, please don’t turn me in!) What you see is over 140 cupcakes and more than two hours worth of work (not including baking). Count ‘em — all 50 stars are there. We were so excited to get this done! In fact, when we finished with the little blue ribbon, we hooted and hollared and even gave a public chest bump. It was a good day.
Okay, enough of my business. How y’all doing with your reading?
It is the end of May which means, if you’re on schedule, you’ve read almost half the Bible already!!
I’m not one of those people. I am happy to say I finally made it to February with my reading of Acts. Pitiful, I know, but I have been keeping up with several other sections and I’ve read ahead in a couple. Also, we may be coming up to a time when I can’t do much else, but read. I fully intend to catch up over the summer while the kids play and swim and I chill somewhere near them.
You’re turn! Tell us where you are, what you’re learning or how you plan to catch up. We can do it!!

I have not read this week~which is so wrong! Now that baby is here other things are falling into place and I am planning on adding Bible reading soon…again…not in the order that it should be! I am determined to see this through and be obedient, even if my heart isn’t always willing. Hang in there everyone! Thank you, Tanya~praying house stuff is starting to look up!
I’m caught up and into June, but that may sound like bragging to you moms of kids at home, and I don’t mean it that way at all. I don’t know how you all do it as I have a difficult time staying on track and always feel like I’m catching up. Until last week. For one day I had the priviledge of having 2 of our grandchildren here and I just realized at the end of the day that I didn’t have my prayer time today. As I stepped out of bed this morning my feet hit the floor running and I know it’s like that for most of you younger moms. I’m so glad I signed up to do this with you all. It’s been about 10 yrs since I read through the Bible in a yr and I’m loving it!
Way to go, Mary Jo! Even though I have small kiddos, I believe that my priorities should be God first, my hubby, and then my kiddos. I need to fill up my first priority so that He overflows into my other priorities. It frustrates me that I think I can run on “spiritual empty” way too often! Plus~I so want my children to see me in the Word, so they realize how important it is…oh to figure out a way to keep all of my plates spinning!
I am so thankful to have an accountability group and am happy to rejoice with anyone who has gotten caught up!
That cake is AMAZING! You rock!
I’m so pitifully behind on my readings that I’m afraid I’ll never catch up. But I’m a stubborn old gal so I’m going to try to make some headway before our next check in. I’ll take any prayers you wanna throw my way too.
Love that stubborness, Mer@Lifeat 7000feet
Praying God will give you extra times! maybe this summer you’ll find just the time you need!
Complete honesty? I’m still not finished with Deuteronomy. And I’m further ahead in Deuteronomy than any of the other sections. But I worked on catching up some this weekend and I’m not going to give up.
I’m done with II Corinthians and heading into Galations….love Paul’s letters!!!! Finishing II Samuel, so I am a day behind, but not bad….a week ago, I was a mess, but did some catch up and hate feeling like that too….agree with the girls above that I love the accountability of reading with ya’ll and through the Bible in a year! We can do it!
Your cake is fantastic! No cake wreck there!
May sort of kicked my hiney, so I am behind. I think I am somewhere between the 11-15 of may in the OT. I am nearly finished with may in Palms and the NT stuff is also somewhere in the middle of may. I am hoping that I will get caught up in the next week or two!
I am praying for you and your…stuff.
