Mama Loves: Worthy Sacrifices
After two years of enduring her begging, we enrolled Ellie in ballet last fall. At that time, I had no idea how expensive a year of ballet could cost. I affectionately call it our “money pit.” The costs of tuition, practice costumes, two pairs of shoes (one for ballet and another for tap), a special ballet bag, a recital costume, tickets, photos, teacher gifts and — well, I’m sure I’m missing something! — it all added quickly to a small fortune.
But then some sacrifices are wonderful. Some sacrifices prove themselves worthy in as little as two minutes.
I love it.
By the way, this was actually the video of the dress rehearsal two weeks ago. (We weren’t permitted to tape the actual recital because they had professionals working it or something like that.) Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to wait this long to post this?? The girls were more “together” at the actual recital. They’re just too adorable.

So, you sat through your 12-hour long recital? She looks great! I’ll be taping Bean’s dress rehearsal this June *grin*.
So cute! I can’t wait for my miss to do something like this!
Too incredibly cute! I know it can be a hassle, but it’s a lot of fun, too. I hope my daughter wants to take again this fall. She wanted to take gymnastics with her brother this year, which they’ve both enjoyed.
Thanks for sharing your video with us.
Oh! how can you stand to be in the face of such adorableness!
She did awesome! I know you’re so proud of her.
Did you know I studies dance through college and taught ballet and jazz until I was 7 months pregnant with The Girl?
I couldn’t WAIT for the day when she would cross that stage in her first dance recital. COULDN”T WAIT!!!!
But she took a semester of dance and said “Mom, why can’t I just play soccer?”
So i gave birth to a jock whose built like a ballerina (which is funny, because I am still built like an athlete, and spent too many years crying over not being built for ballet)…but I cheer on the fields as runs like the wind and I am proud of her all the same!
Karen: Make sure you post the video!! I want to see it.
Kellie: I learn new things about you all the time!
I was a dancer, too, but only for a few years in middle/high school. Ellie really loved ballet; she took it VERY seriously. However, I don’t know if we’ll stick with it. I think she needs a little break. She keeps asking for “rollerskating lessons.” I keep telling her we don’t live in the seventies, but she won’t be deterred. She’s also asking for swim and soccer. We’ll see. Maybe by fall she’ll be dying to go back to Miss Patti’s dance studio. I kinda hope so.
